Sharked Eggs

Yesterday, I saw someone post a picture of deviled eggs and I about lost it- the cravings hit and I was dying for one.

So….last night, I put some recipes together and came up with one that I call – Sharked Eggs.

Now, I’m not much of a cook but I’m learning and this was the FIRST time every making my version (or any version) of deviled eggs…and I must say, they turned out pretty amazing.

RECIPE

12 Eggs
½ cup mayo
3 tbsp chives
1 tsp mustard
1 pinch of salt
1 dash of pepper
Some sprinkles of paprika
Some bacon

It’s really pretty easy- you hard boil the eggs. I put the eggs in water with some salt, turned the heat up on HIGH until it came to a rapid boil, then I covered them…turned the heat off and let them set for about 12-14 minutes and they turned out perfect. I then put them directly into some ice water and then de-shelled them under running cold water. Worked perfectly.

Cut the eggs in half and remove the yolk- should be a little ball of goodness.

Then, just mix all the stuff up with the yolk and stir really well, fill up the egg halves, sprinkle some paprika and then put little pieces of bacon in them for the shark fins.

The bacon adds some crunchy, flavor and just goes really well with eggs.

This makes 12 servings, just remember that a serving is 2 of them, which equals one egg.

MACROS (per serving, 2 Sharked Eggs)

Carbs – 0.5g
Fat – 13.1g
Protein – 7.3g
Calories – 152

Keto Master

Working on Day 3 of my training to be a Keto Master…so far, so good.

Let’s look at a normal day and the routine I’m trying to get into –

Breakfast – Premier Protein Shake. Low carb, high protein. (weekends will be bacon/eggs, etc.)
Lunch – Huge salad with some protein and regular dressing, just not an entire bottle.
Snack – Sugar free Jello, tuna/mayo/celery, pork rinds, etc.
Dinner – Grilled chicken, salad, low-cab meat loaf, shrimp, etc

As for suppliments-

2 GNC Mega Men Energy/Metabolism Multivitamin
1 Magnesium pill
1 Iron pill (I have low iron, based on blood results)
1 Sinus pill
Muscletech Pre-Workout Explosion (3 days a week, only on weight lifting days)

That’s about it. We’ll be adding other lunches/dinners, etc as we learn more about low carb food, cooking and stuff.

This is only the third day, so it’s a long road ahead.

I’m trying to focus on eating better right now and keeping my carbs below 30 but yesterday, I went out and played basketball for about an hour with my son and that wore me out. I do plan on getting back on my exercise schedule of stationary bike, boxing, kettlebells, resistance bands and weights in the next week or so. I’m still walking three times a day at work.

So far, in 2 days…the wife has dropped 6 lbs. and I’m down 4 lbs. – I know it’s water weight, trust me…I’m not new to this weight loss stuff.

I’ve been trying for years (with some success) and even though I’ve failed or lost the small success I’ve had…I’ve never given up trying.

Based on all of the research I’ve done and watching my friends lose weight with Keto…I’m thinking this is the road for me.

I WILL be a Keto Master.

4,145th Attempt

The only thing consistent with my weight loss journey is that I’ve never given up…completely.

I’ve tried a million times, had some great success, only to fail…but I always get back up and I’m getting back up again…sure, maybe I’m grabbing on to stuff and trying to pull myself up but I’m not staying down.

The wife and I are trying to go full Keto! I want to become a Keto master! I’ve read and done research and it just seems like Keto is the way to go and we’ve tried a few times but never actually fully jumped in, but as today, 4.17- we are!

We have spent the last month or so, sort of trying to remove some carbs here and there…slowly stop eating bread and stuff like that, because it’s not something you can truly do overnight- the urges are just to over powering.

I then spend the last week or two, switching from my normal P3 lunches to salads and adding jello for snack and I think we are in a good spot to turn the switch on and try to hit that “less than 30” mark.

We even got Keo sticks to pee on…so, I guess you could say it’s pretty serious.

I will be a Keto Master….bow to your sensei…..BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!!!!!!

So, today-

Breakfast – Premier Protein Chocolate shake- low carb/high protein.

Lunch – Huge salad, mostly spinach with some cheese and ham. Full fat dressing. low carb/high fat.

Snack – jello – basically nothing but good ol’ boiled animal bones.

Dinner – I know my wife told me, but I’m a typical man and was probably just thinking about her boobs. I think it’s some shrimp stir fry- light on the noodles.

My MACROS are set at –

10% – Carb (30)
65% Fat (87)
25% Protein (75)

1,200 calories

I’m even going to get back on the bike….literally! Hopefully do some boxing and weights as well…added with my walking.

Getting healthy needs to become focus number 1 right now.

Attempt: 4,145
Failed: 4,144

4,145th times the charm.

Cut The Cord

So, I’m sure you have heard of people “cutting the cord” which basically means cutting off your cable and watching shows through other resources. We’ve wanted to do it for a long time because we literally HATE Time Warner Cable but it always seemed like it just really wouldn’t work.

Yesterday…we decided to go for it.

I called TWC (now Spectrum) yesterday because I kept seeing the commercials for free modem and since we have been paying a “fee” for ours for years now…literally hundreds of dollars for a $50 piece of equipment…I thought maybe they would just drop that charge.

HA!

Not only would they not drop the charge, the guy actually seemed pissed that we weren’t paying MORE! I thought we were already Spectrum customers (but we aren’t…yet we are); he tells me that we got grandfathered in so we are still TWC customers so we are getting huge breaks. To transfer over to Spectrum, we would actually pay about $20 more to have what we have now.

So- I asked why we wouldn’t get all the deals as a NEW Spectrum customer then…well, that is the thing…we aren’t new customers when it comes to getting any deals.

TWC/Spectrum has this small town locked down and they know it- if you want cable or internet, you HAVE to use them- there isn’t really much of a choice and they love it. (See South Park episode Informative Murder Porn)

So…that was basically it.
I started doing research and it came down to Playstation Vue or Sling TV and there was one factor that decided it for us- Comedy Central. Vue doesn’t have Comedy Central as one of their stations so we went with Sling.

We are heading out tonight to get an antenna for our TVs so we can get local channels for news, TV shows etc. which should cover everything we have currently had.

Sling TV has a great lineup of channels and the $25 pack included all the channels (that aren’t your local channels) that we watch.

One of the downsides is that Sling doesn’t have a cloud based DVR system yet…BUT it’s in beta testing so that is coming soon.

We already have Hulu, Netflix and WWE Network and have had for years, so I’m not going to count that as a part of our “cable” cost because we never did…so here is the break down.

We were paying $157.80 for TV, 30 mpbs internet plus HBO. The service was shitty, the stuff we DVRed usually broke up in the middle or just froze all together and we never got to see the final seconds of a show because the DVR stopped recording before the show even went off. Now, remember…that price should have been around $180 through Spectrum and he made it very clear that eventually we would have to switch over.

So we had to put some money in now, to buy a couple ROKU boxes and some antennas but our bill will be $70 for internet (60 mpbs – through Spectrum due to their monopoly) plus $40 for Sling TV plus HBO. That internet speed is DOUBLE what we had before.

Total savings of $70 PER MONTH!

Here is the icing on the cake, which I automatically realized last night as I was watching Sling…this will highly cut down on what I call “mindless watching”. There are times we just turn the TV on for no reason and watch a rerun of Reba for the 150th time. Actually using the Sling App is going to force us to think about what we want to watch and we won’t watch stuff we aren’t even really interested in while our DVR fills up.

I’m sure there are cheaper ways out there like those boxes you can find all over Ebay that allows you to watch ANYTHING in the world…even movies that are still at the theater! But remember, if things are too good to be true, they probably are….and a good chance that doing that is illegal.

I’m just happy to be taking money away from Spectrum and putting it into my pocket while making us more mindful viewers at the same time. Also, we can watch the Sling App anywhere, on our phones or tablets PLUS the app is HD on our bedroom TV. We just had cable in our bedroom because another HD box would have been even MORE money!

Now, we’ve only had Sling TV for a day but the quality is amazing, the app is pretty fast and they have some cool little features like the “MY CHANNELS” so you just have the list of channels you will actually watch.

So far, the experience has been amazing.
