Photography Kicks Ass

Posted by Administrator On October - 29 - 2008

I love photography…period. I love looking at great photos and I love taking photos, which is why I created Sharkfin Photography.

First, let me say that I don’t think I’m a professional photographer, hell, I use a 5 MP Kodak digital camera from Wal-Mart which is about 3 years old already; I just love taking pictures.

You can visit www.myspace.com/sharkfin_photography to see some of my favorite shots and you can actually see that I’m already getting better at it. I have learned that practice truly makes perfect when dealing with photography plus I have gotten a few pointers from one of the best photographers in Kentucky – Josh Burns (www.photographilia.com).

I think the key to being a good photographer is to go with your instinct and to take hundreds, if not thousands, of shots during one photo shoot. Take more than one picture of a certain pose and then choose the best. A lot of times, when you are shooting people they want to direct the shoot and that is fine to a point but you really have to be in control because you are the one looking through the camera lens.

Plus, you have to learn to take criticism because not everyone is going to like your shots; it’s just a fact. Everyone has their own taste and you have to learn to take the pictures you like.

The truth is; anyone can snap a picture and anyone can load a picture into Photoshop and make is professional looking. Don’t become a photographer to make money, do it because you love it!!!

If you are a photographer, feel free to email some of your best shots to sharky@sharkysworld.com and I’ll post them on my Sharkfin Photography MySpace in your own folder and promote your site or MySpace for FREE!!

Sharky Supports Nader

Posted by Administrator On October - 29 - 2008

I have been reading a lot of stuff lately about Obama and I have withdrawn my support for him; from promise breaking over election finances to hanging out with “shady” people. I have also been watching some of his latest speeches on YouTube and he is getting way to cocky and a bit conceited.

I can bring myself to vote for McCain either because he would lead us straight into World War III and honestly, we wouldn’t make it as a country. It wouldn’t be the world fighting each other, it would be the world fighting us and that is a no win situation.

A lot of people don’t know it, but when you go to vote on Tuesday, November 4th…there will be 6 candidates to choose from; not just Obama and McCain.

Republican – John McCain
Democrat – Barack Obama
Libertarian – Bob Barr
Constitution – Chuck Baldwin
Green – Cynthia McKinney (another woman running for president….you had no idea!!!)
Independent – Ralph Nader

After doing some research, I have decided to show full support for Ralph Nader. I realize this is considered a “wasted” vote but it’s my vote and that is all that matters. We all know that either McCain or Obama will be our next president but that doesn’t take away my right to have my voice heard.

Bob Barr is an idiot, Chuck Baldwin is a pastor and radio host (just what we need, more religion shoved down our throat) and if Cynthia McKinney can’t make more noise as a female president candidate, she doesn’t deserve my vote.

Ralph Nader has run for president 4 times (96, 00, 04 and 08) and I doubt he will give up. (Nader ’12).

The main reason behind my decision is Nader’s views on constitutional rights…he is for less government and more citizen participation.

To see where Nader/Gonzalez stand on the issues, visit VoteNader.Org…it’s all laid out there in black and white (and color!!).

Nader 2008….this way, I get to b*tch about the president for the next 4 years because I didn’t vote for him…

P.S. Of course, Ralph Nader is part Arab American and part Lebanese American…who woulda thunk it with a name like Ralph??

Sharky Reviews…Sonny’s BBQ and SAW V

Posted by Administrator On October - 27 - 2008

My wife and I went out on a “date” to celebrate our 5 year anniversary of the day we met. We decided to hit the Sonny’s Real Pit BBQ in Nicholasville and then head over to catch the new Saw movie; SAW V.

We arrived at Sonny’s about 4pm; which seems to be the perfect time because we had the place to ourselves. Our waitress, Jasmond, was awesome; we didn’t have to ask or wait for anything, she was on top of it; please she was really cute…what more could you ask for?

The food at Sonny’s was amazing…as always. We have been there several times and never been unhappy with the food or service. (The Nicholasville location). If you don’t know what Sonny’s is, it’s an ALL YOU CAN EAT BBQ place and I realize that isn’t on my diet but it was my anniversary…so screw it.

We had the ALL YOU CAN EAT chicken; which includes chicken, bbq beans, Texas Toast and fries. They start you out with a huge plate of food and even a big boy like me rarely has to ask for 2nd’s and for both us, the bill was right at $20.00…you can’t beat that.

Great customer service, great food, great price….greatest place there is.

After we filled up, we headed to the theater to see SAW V; my wife and I are both huge SAW fans so we were really excited.

The tickets were crazy at $13.00; hell, we could have just waited and bought the DVD for just a few bucks more!!

There really isn’t much to review about the movie, it was the worse movie in the SAW line and we were both extremely let down. The entire movie is basically a flash back explaining and reliving the first 4 movies. There wasn’t much added to the story line (if you watch the first 4, you should have already figured most of it out). The acting was the worse I have ever seen; the two “cops” in the movie were terrible!!! Jigsaw (the main character) was awesome as always but he can’t carry an entire movie on his back, you need good supporting actors and this movie DID NOT have that.

If you watch SAW movies, you know they always have amazing ends…I don’t want to ruin it for anyone but I can tell you that they are running out of amazing endings. The ending was the best part but it still didn’t even come close to the first SAW movie.

If you are thinking about going to see it- DON’T! Wait until it hits one of the online renting services or one of those $1 electronic movie boxes like RedBox. The movie is worth the $1 to rent but not worth $13.

I did win my wife two Peter Griffen stuffed dolls out of a machine at the theater so that was worth the trip!!!

I’m not a critic, just telling you what I think!!

Colleen – Spoon In Hand??

Posted by Administrator On October - 27 - 2008

Have you ever heard the saying, “Stirring the Shit Pot?”

The Urban dictionary’s definition for this saying is:

Someone who loves to proliferate the tension and drama between 2 or more feuding people/groups in public to get a raise of people in hopes of starting a shitstorm of drama and uncomfortable conflict, sometimes for personal gain but oftentimes just for the thrill of confrontation.

Ex: Mike is always spreading rumors about “whats goin’ on” between Josh and Emily but we know he just loves to stir the pot.

Why do so many people thrive on division, conflict and unrest? Busybodies, slanderers and disagreeable persons can cause havoc in an environment, sowing discord and stirring up trouble.

Everyone has something in their life that has contributed to the amount of shit in that pot, I don’t care who you are, no one is perfect. Sometimes this proverbial “pot” is a persons way of letting go or getting rid of things to create a more harmonious life.

Most of the time no one cares or gives it a second thought, until someone comes along and gives it a stir, allowing that simmering pot to release some of the foulness, hostility and anger that was placed in it, bringing to surface some things that, over the years had finally settled to the bottom.

I have come across way to many people with a spoon in their hand!

What is wrong with peace, tranquility, unity and harmony?
Most persons want to avoid needless strife, and although there are times when standing for the truth will stir up strife, the people with the spoon in hand aren’t even seeking truth… they are seeking trouble.

For example, a husband and wife married for 25 years and are looking forward to another 25. They have placed many items in that pot over the years… maybe a lie here, a hostile word there. They may have even placed a larger “ingredient” in the pot, maybe a years worth of affairs that they have worked through to find peace and harmony with each other. They were able to forgive and get rid of the things that clouded a bright future together.

Now, someone comes along, peeks in that pot…. And runs to grab a spoon! All the hostility, anger, lies and deceit that had settled to the bottom has now been brought to the surface. (Humans are capable of forgiveness, but without memory loss, life altering events are never really forgotten.)
Was the person who grabbed that spoon jealous of the couple? Of their peace? What made him want to bring all those things to the surface?

What is the “shit-stirrers” personal gain? Probably nothing…. Maybe boredom, or jealousy. Whatever the reason, it now creates strife in other peoples lives.

What if the infidelity of this couple happened in the first couple of years of their marriage, they worked it out, never making that mistake again, and went on to create a family. Their children were taught marital values based on the relationship of their parents.

What gave an outsider the right to destroy those values by showing those children what their parents had done before they were even conceived?

What gave him the right to place doubt in their eyes? Why?!

They try to fill a void with this type of negative energy. They come from a place of fear and respond from a place of fear. People who come from a place of love and overall compassion realize that drama just detracts from the reality and does not offer anything that is constructive or healthy in life.

Most of us, at sometime in our lives have had that spoon in hand, and some may have even walked over to that pot…. Then there are those who have actually given it a stir…. Standing back to see what comes to the surface.
