Friends who Differ??

Posted by Administrator On March - 10 - 2010

By Toni Watters

I am gonna be short and to the point today…

I know that we all have our difference, be they race, religion, background, drug uses…that is what makes us great, but where is the line?? Where does what someone believes and what they find funny and joke about and believe make it not possible for you to remain friends?? I have a very very eclectic group of friends, and we all have different thoughts and feelings on things that is what makes it great!! But at what point, does someone’s constant jokes and bigotry make it not possible for you to be friends with them. I guess I have to get into specifics but I have a friend, who is white, who always makes racial jokes and whenever he speaks to me he is constantly like “What up homie?” “What’s crackin??’ “What’s the dealio??” all kinds of “black” phrases or at least what he thinks are “black” phrases. I don’t speak that way and he has openly admitted he does not speak that way to anyone else “as I am his only black friend” (his words not mine)… Even though I have expressed that it bothers me it continues….. The latest joke mask he wore has just pushed me over the top. Wanna be a racist or whatever that is fine. Wanna think, feel, believe whatever you want about black people and tell me I am an exception…that’s fine, but do I have to stay friends with you??? Nope not at all!!!

Till next time….

Redneck Girls

Let Me Get A Big ‘Hell Yeah” From The Redneck Girls Like Me!

Some people look down on me
But I don’t give a rip
I stand barefooted in my own front yard
With a baby on my hip

Okay so it’s not a baby, it’s a toddler, but still…you get the point.

As much as I’d like to think otherwise, yes I am a redneck woman. First let me point out that there’s a huge difference in “redneck” and “white trash.” Rednecks are the hard-workin, truck-drivin, hard drinkin group of people with a glorious lack of sophistication. White trash tends to leave out the “hard workin” part of that equation. I’m from Kentucky, so it’s just natural that I’m a redneck, most of us are to some varying degree or another. I’m not hard-core redneck, but I do love me some NASCAR and Toby Keith. I’m a single mom raising a beautiful three-year-old boy who’s never had a hair cut, and I’m not planning on that happening any time soon. I love Dog The Bounty Hunter, and actually hope my son’s hair grows out like Dog’s son Little Gary. I have one tattoo (of the University of Kentucky Wildcat, thank you), and my reward for meeting my second weight loss goal (hopefully by May) will be another tattoo (blue Koi fish with my son’s name around it).

Today a coworker and I were discussing “the wreck” yesterday at Atlanta. Don’t even act like you don’t know what I’m talking about… you know you saw it, and you know it kicked ass. She and I were discussing what kind of punishment would be handed down to Carl Edwards, and I said that if I made his kind of money, I would have put Kesalowski in the wall, too. A fine would be well worth it just for paybacks. We don’t have glass separating us from the lobby, so our patients could hear every word. I noticed one guy staring at us like we had six heads or something. These are blue-collar guys, so this type of conversation wasn’t foreign to him. I don’t know whether he was a Kesalowski fan or just didn’t think two girls had any place discussing NASCAR, but it kinda made me mad. Stop paying attention and go back to the FOX fiction, er, news that we’re made to play in the lobby. Hell I was excited that she was at work today. I work 5 days a week, but she only works 3, and she’s the only other NASCAR fan at work. I can finally have someone to talk to about the amazing races and wrecks and all that stuff. The other girl I share an office with is redneck, but doesn’t pay attention to NASCAR other than to comment that “Jeff Gordon will sit on any pole he can get.”

I am utterly disgusted with how the actions of several Texas, not just Austin, but San Antonio as well, police officers. Seems like everyday there is a story about the police killing someone, or abusing someone or violating the law in so form or fashion. It is getting really ridiculous. I can’t speak for any where other than here but it is out of control. Cops here are using their badges as a get out of jail free card and are doing whatever they want to whomever they want!!!

There have been several incidents as far back as I can remember but some of the most recent ones are just terrible!!!!

A San Antonio police office picks up this 19-yr old, cuffs them, drives somewhere, rapes them and then just drops them off in a parking lot?? Like as if because he is a cop he can just get away with it??? Just drops him off in the parking lot like its okay!! Then he gets out on only $27K bond?? I know people who have done a lot less and there bond was much higher!!!!

Weight Loss Progress

Since the first of the year, I have lost 20 pounds. It’s not an outstanding amount, but it’s coming off slow and steady, not once have I gained, and I have made lifestyle changes that I can live with.
Now it’s time to kick up the exercise portion of my lifestyle change. I have changed my eating habits, made changes that I enjoy and that are good for me and that I can stick with. I don’t deprive myself, but I don’t choose unhealthy foods very often. If I am seriously craving chocolate and nothing else will do, I eat a 100 calorie pack of oreo crisps or mr salty chocolate covered pretzels, I don’t grab a Snickers. And the truth is, I feel SO much better.

But so far, my excercise routine has consisted of either the treadmill or dancing around with my son, or both. I am ready for something new. I go to the YMCA on occasion and use the elliptical, but due to time and child care constraints, that’s just not feasible a lot of the time. I am looking for something fun that I can do at home. If it’s not fun, then I know me… I won’t stick with it. I enjoy my treadmill, because I can put on some tunes, walk, and my son can hang out and dance around to the music while I’m walking. But I want to add something different, more cardio, whether it be a DVD or exercise routine, or whatever. I need suggestions.
